Superintendent Update
Dear Penn Hills Parents, Guardians and Families,
I hope you are well. As I'm sure you are already aware, earlier this summer district superintendent Dr. Nancy Hines announced her retirement effective October 2023. As a result, the Penn Hills Board of School Directors has contracted with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) to search for a new superintendent. This process is already underway.
Late yesterday evening, the board of directors held an emergency executive session. This morning, the district's administration learned that the board has agreed to allow Dr. Hines to begin her retirement earlier than originally announced. As a result, today is Dr. Hines' last day of active employment.
This unanticipated decision has created an absence in the district's leadership hierarchy. Earlier this morning, it was requested that I fill this opening on an interim basis until a new, permanent superintendent is named. As a resident of the Penn Hills community with 24 years of experience in education, I can appreciate the suddenness of this chain of events; however, I look forward to serving all of our students and families as we begin the new school year together.
I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Dr. Hines for her dedicated years of service to the Penn Hills School District. During her tenure, Dr. Hines shepherded the district through the difficult days of the Covid-19 pandemic and remained resolute in her commitment to our students, staff and community. As the district moves forward into the 2023-2024 school year, we will continue to build upon the stable foundation that Dr. Hines created for us all.
Thank you for your grace and understanding as we begin the new school year. We look forward to supporting our community and helping your children learn, grow and achieve.
Sincerely,
Ms. Dawn Golden
