From Penn Hills to Publication: Michael Robert Drane Releases New Book

Penn Hills School District proudly congratulates Class of 2005 graduate Michael Robert Drane on the publication of his novel, Their Wonted Fires.

Released in spring 2026, Their Wonted Fires is a historical novel set in Gilded Age Pittsburgh that explores themes of love and resilience during a time of rapid industrialization. The story follows the Moran family as they navigate hardship and loss, highlighting the struggles of the working class amid labor conflict and economic change.

The novel also features notable historical figures such as Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, Charles M. Schwab, and B. F. Jones, bringing additional depth and historical context to the narrative.

Published by Catamount Press, the book is available in paperback and e-book formats through major retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and Dymocks.
